Adding character to your home is something that we discuss with our clients regularly. It can be easier in some homes to create that character. In some homes this can be more of a challenge. New build properties can often be lacking in character. However, there are many ways in which this can be added. We are happy to discuss these with our client when they are considering a redecoration project.
Wood Panelling
This is a new build property that we recently worked on. We have done a lot of work for this client as they work through their house to build a home, they are proud of. It is often the case that builders leave homes with white ceilings, white walls and white woodwork. Although this leaves you with an empty canvass to create and add your style to, it can often be a challenge to really add character.
Our client had made the decision to add wood panelling to the kitchen, utility and downstairs WC. It was only when the project was complete that they realised the true potential it reached. They knew they were adding character but had no idea how much it would alter the feel of the room. It took it from a bland expanse to one of warmth and charm.
The preparation needed for such a project is quite extensive. If you use MDF, it is important that it is prepared and sanded appropriately so it does not look rough in appearance. The appropriate preparation is needed in order to offer it a smooth and finished appearance.
This may take more coats than you originally thought but the time spent on perfecting the process pays dividends to the overall finish. We hope that you agree this really complimented this beautiful home and brought character and charm.
